Tara's Story

In December, 1992 Tara was born with a pigmented hairy nevus covering most of her chin. Treatment for Tara was rejected by insurance and other outreach organizations, leaving her to face a lifetime of painful stares and insensitive comments.
On June 15, 1996, a Fresh Start team of volunteers gave Tara and her grateful parents a reason to smile. The successful operation removed the pre-cancerous patch of black skin and hair, transforming Tara into an energetic and outgoing little girl.
Her mother, Lisann notes that ”it’s just amazing to look at her now and think how hopeless things seemed. She has truly been transformed." The real thanks go to the volunteers who help Fresh Start Surgical Gifts create such an immediate positive transformation in the lives of children like Tara.
