Avante age 20 lives in Chicago, suffered from a genetic response to a bug bite on his lower lip called Melkersson-Rosenthal Syndrome. A condition that creates swelling in the face or scalp. The bug bite occurred while Avante was asleep and for 3 years he and his mother went from doctor to doctor in search of a diagnosis and treatment.

Once correctly diagnosed by Fresh Start volunteer Dr. Russell Reid a treatment plan was created and today when Avante looks in the mirror he sees a happy smiling reflection.
